VIDEO: One Week Update

More Meds

TMI ALERT!!I’m taking stool softeners 3 times a day along with suppositories now and still can’t poop much. Ugh! Thinking that’s also why back is so sore. And,now….sore throat has developed and a slight cough when I lay down. Great! My head, however, feels pretty darn good. Go figure.

Vermont Teddy BearDSCN4762I received my very first Vermont Teddy Bear today in the mail from my family. Such beautifully constructed bears and sooo cute with the hospital gown and bracelet and bandage around left ear. My family sent it…as is our tradition. Love them all and it surely seems odd to not have a sister to chat with about everything. Going to take some more getting used to…not that I have much choice.

Trying to figure out what to do with my back pain. Waiting for return call from PA a Dr. Ecker’s office. Pain pills, heat, cold, rest or walking don’t seem to be helping.

So, I’m going to try more steroids, and a relaxant for my back/butt. I’ll try anything if it eases that pain. Who’da thunk after brain surgery it would be my butt that is giving me the most trouble!

Got a nice card in the mail from the Purchasing Department at Johnny’s today. Thanks so much! They bring a smile to my swollen face.

Oh, That Pain

Miserable night. The pain in my lower back and sciatic area has now exceeded any pain in my head and I’m unable to get comfortable standing, sitting, walking, or laying as a result. Walked for 30 minutes but no relief. It’s also not helping the swelling in my incision go down because I can’t get comfortable long enough to hold ice in my face/head long enough to make any difference.

Oddly, I haven’t receive any kind of follow-up call from any Dr. or hospital yet, so this morning I made a call to Dr. Eckers office to inquire about what else I can do about this pain. I either had forgotten or never heard that I could also take Tylenol with the narcotic so I’m going to try more of that. They also said sitting in my air-jet tub for 15 minutes wouldn’t hurt, so I’m all over that!

I’m also going to try sitting in living room instead of bedroom. The furniture out there is a bit more stable and supportive. I already was able to fall asleep after breakfast on the love seat so that’s great I felt comfortable. There is hope…until I move of course.Today is first day I’ve been able to read a little better online. Got onto Pinterest and that didn’t bother me. Twitter and Facebook are still a tad busy though. I tried to watch a video on my iPad last night when I couldn’t sleep, but that was hard to focus on. Not responding to emails or Facebook DM’s ….sorry. Please read my blog. It’s easier for me to write in bits and pieces throughout the day to everyone than to pay attention to each comment. Sorry.

Ooops

Apparently, my body decided to shift to the left during the night and I ended up sleeping on the incision side of my head/face for some time. Woke up 3 a.m. feeling pretty lousy. Woke up, walked to bathroom and realized I had a good setback and my face was all swollen again.

DSCN4761Without waking Dave up to get me ice, I kept getting a cold clothe to put on face and was finally able to fall back to sleep for a bit, but still very uncomfortable. Breakfast, drugs, and ice helped ease the pain and discomfort. Short nap and a walk with my cane helped too, but need to make sure I do more ice today. As nine-time aneurysm surgery survivor Lori told me…ice is your friend.

I still have to eat very soft foods due to jaw muscle being so sore from them cutting it, but I think it’s starting to get a bit better. I have to keep reminding myself it hasn’t even been a week since the surgery.

Received a beautiful bouquet of lilies and snapdragons from The Research Team at Johnny’s. Very, very nice and brought a smile to my semi-swollen face.

I am not answering individual emails yet. Just too much reading and writing.  Actually write my one blog entry throughout the day when I’m feeling good. I’m not ignoring people, just easier to communicate via one forum right now.
